Initial visit/evaluation

After you complete the intake process, your first visit to UVA  Behavioral Health Manassas is a chance for your provider to get to know about you or your child, your current medical concerns and you or your child's health history. You can expect to spend about an hour at this initial appointment. It might include:

  • An assessment of your (or your child's) medical history including psychiatric history and any history of trauma.
  • A mental status exam.
  • Suicide, risk and substance abuse assessments.

After collecting and evaluating this information as well as listening to your concerns, your provider will make recommendations for your treatment. If medication is included in your treatment plan, you will receive information about recommended medications and have a chance to ask any questions you have. You will be given hard copies of prescriptions or instructions for how to obtain those from your pharmacy.

You will also receive referrals to any other providers or services that are included in your treatment plan. And, you will be informed of the plan for follow-up medication management appointments in our office.
